A Poem a Day (677): Ricochet

Ricochet

Life ricochets,
outside of warmth,
footsteps upon an enamel floor,
wrinkles cast in this idle stone
we sit upon and desire upon
a crimson distant moon. Flecks dart
and reflect, this embrace of night,
Nocturne aghast at Light’s disperse.

I wander in. I wonder to disappear.
An arc of wave rises, subsides, just is,
and I am, as I always have been,
an echo of a belief, breaths of time,
seeking the limits of what we know.
We can step out or we can step in.
I stand between the here and the other,
taste the salt of the sea, vanish a little.

A Poem a Day (625): The room with a view

The room with a view

The hinges creak open,
a single gust of stalest air,
unencumbered presences.

A single candle, unlit,
upturned book, spine rigid,
black pen devoid of ink.

Porcelain cup, etched deep,
liquid seeps in a tie-dye ring,
teaspoon perched wounded.

The half-drawn curtain sways,
sucked out by the wind,
lace nets blown in rhythm.

Upon the bed an open letter,
read once and abandoned.
On the pillow a white, white rose.

NaPoWriMo (Day 24): Season's tunes

For the month of April, I’m writing a poem a day from prompts on https://www.napowrimo.net. You can click on the headlines (Day One, etc) to view/add comments. There’s also a list of participants’ sites below the site header.

I didn’t do the prompt today, but went with the repetition prompt again.

Season’s tunes

Sounds of the summer,
laughter in the park, wiles of
dogs barking lively.

Sounds of the springtime,
lemon daffodils through grass,
a half-light of sun.

Sounds of winter spun,
thick crunch of snow, icy sleet,
winds blowing full force.

Sounds of the autumn,
flutter of leaves floating down,
blackbird song on high.
