A Poem a Day (208): Feeling fine?

I’m a bit late this weekend to JD Mader’s 2minutesgo writing party on his blog, Unemployed Imagination. Yesterday I went visiting friends in the countryside, and all the fresh air and greenery was awesome. There’s still time to write and read on JD’s blog today, so head over there, as you can every weekend, to scribble, have a read or comment. Have a groovy Sunday afternoon 😊
Every day is a winding road, in the words of Sheryl Crow. Listening to that play right now.

Feeling fine?

For redemption day
We wait and smile and hum,
Pretending not to care
About a legality or a whim,
A fig or a politician laughing.

For the right to speak
And be listened to fairly,
Waiting for it to be right.
To be able to act freely
Anywhere under the sun.

For the right to be
Anyone we want to be.
To be able to walk at night,
Be who we are as women
And never be judged.
