A Poem a Day (134): Lockdown

Lockdown

A scream is a small thing
But it can billow out,
Become a massive bellow
From the belly up,
Pulling your insides out.

I had to practice this
With hairy spiders
And creepy Mister Fairfox,
Living at number four
When I was barely nine.

A scream is a huge thing
If you do it right.
It makes hairs stand on end
And pierces silences
With an order to act.

You had to practice this
When The News turned bad,
Giving out fearful numbers
That struck us dumb.
No one should have to count bodies.
