A Poem a Day (46): Cast Adrift

Shedding its light
the long day sighs,
cast adrift
as it is,
a boat bobbing
upon star-sparkled
ripples.

Splatter of clouds,
the horizon yawns
a splash of red
dancing in water;
it pushes us out,
this little craft
so fragile.

See fear stalking
soundless and bare
ragged. So skeletal,
he ventures forth
berating all where
the waves surge,
lifting as they fall.

We sail forth
where the end dwells
in silent reproach.
It beckons us,
singling us out.
This bloody moon
washes over.
