A Poem a Day (46): Cast Adrift

Shedding its light
the long day sighs
cast adrift
as it is
a boat bobbing
upon star-sparkled
ripples

splatter of clouds
the horizon yawns
a splash of red
dancing in water
it pushes us out
this little craft
so fragile

see fear stalking
soundless and bare
ragged, so skeletal,
he ventures forth
berating all
the waves surge
lifting as they fall

we sail forth
where the end dwells
in silent reproach
it beckons us
singling us out
this bloody moon

washes over
