A Poem a Day (384): Burning red

Poetry course word prompts: burning, burning papers, rubbish, bonfires, burning leaves, letters, the past.

Burning red

Burning leaves crackle out,
crimson-red to sienna flaking,
tears disintegrating mid-air.
We borrow, but we can’t find.

Tender is the tinder blossom,
not waiting for spring to flower.
Words greet the sky mutely,
only read and never spoken.

An impermanent statement
flames into a broken promise.
It’s nothing now. It floats free.
Scant memories taken by the wind.
