Victory

Victory is the story of a little girl and the town where she lives. The town of Victory has a history of patriotism, faith and friendliness. The little girl, Brown Eyes, orphaned when her missionary parents were killed in a fire, lives with her only known relative who does not want the girl. When The Guest comes to town, the people open their hearts to him, without knowing who he is or his motives.

Shortly after The Guest’s arrival, The Stranger appears, much to the other’s discomfort. One of these men wants to control and sparks fear; the other comes with faith. Slowly, the town loses its freedoms as one of the men takes over little by little. When there is a face-to-face showdown on the mountain, the life of the child and the future of the town are at stake. When darkness overtakes the town who will have Victory?

All about DeEtte

Author and blogger DeEtte Anderton started writing in 2007, when her son challenged her to get involved in NaNoWriMo. The manuscript sat untouched with several others until January 2012, when a good friend encouraged her to seek publication. The Christmas Visitors is her first short story and her current novel, Victory, is also her first.

DeEtte spent much of her childhood playing the piano, clarinet and guitar, reading and making up stories. She was active in the Girl Scouts, which gave her a wide variety of experiences. While at college, she was on the University of Utah’s Synchronized Swim team, and taught year-round camping and survival skills to the Girl Scouts. She has spent many years working with people with disabilities.

Originally from Utah, DeEtte currently lives in New England where she writes full-time and works on the editing team of Master Koda Select Publishing. Her other interests include swimming, crocheting, reading, travelling, history and her grandchildren. In addition, this devoted mother of six and grandmother of twelve (thirteen, come January 2014!) has been a concerned participant in dog rescue services for many years.

Review snippets from Amazon US (not edited)

Victory (ranking 4.8/5 stars from 18 reviews)

"This book made me cry in places and cheer in others. It made me sad at the stupidity of people allowing others to think for them, sort of how life is today and if you read this book you will see a similarity of where we are today and where we should be. This is nothing more than an awesome read and hopes you will pick it up and read it. Thanks DeEtte Beckstead for a glimpse into the world we already live in and how it truly should be."
Lana Lee - 5 stars

"The book has a way of sucking you in, pondering the reality of what is happening and making me believe this could be any town USA... or honestly, is already true is some towns, villages in the world."
D. Course "darkman1969" - 5 stars

"This story is written in a style that reminds me of older writing styles. Elegantly simple and to the point; getting us through the story. There is betrayal, murder, attempted murder (even that of a child), abuse, romantic love and the Might of Right. The story is moving. I enjoyed the story and that unusual writing style."
JudyAnn Lorenz - 5 stars

The Christmas Visitors
(ranking 3.8/5 stars from 14 reviews)

"The writing is rich with detail, and the dialogue sounds right for the characters. The short story itself is heart-warming and really touched me. I especially loved how a dog was included in it as well as in Chapter One of the novel Victory. I'm a dog lover and include them in my work, too. The author did an awesome job with the dog in the short story and the old couple. Loved it. She has a storytelling voice."
BJ Robinson - 5 stars

"For me, the takeaway from The Christmas Visitors has to be that kindness, love & understanding must always prevail. I enjoyed the storytelling style of the author very much. Her style reminds me of sitting in a rocker on the front porch listening to old family tales."
GypsyNana - 5 stars

Interview with K.D. Emerson

If you could go back in time to when you were seven, what wisdom would you pass on to herself?

Don’t you dare put that pen down! No matter what anyone says, no matter how impractical it might seem, don’t put the pen down because when you get older there will be people that love your style and your writing will make a difference in their lives.

What inspired your characters in Digitus 233?

All my characters are created from the dark corners of my mind with a little snippet of their personality inspired by a real person. So no matter who your favourite character is in one of my books, you will know there is someone real hidden in there somewhere. It’s up to the reader to figure out what that snippet is.

Why did you end Digitus 233 with such a horrifying cliffhanger? Did you want the reader to scream?

Well, you just hit the answer to your own question right on the head. I wanted my readers to scream out and then I wanted them to use their own imagination to come up with their own possible ending. In book two, I will share my conclusion with them and then we can compare how close we came to having the same resolution.

What brings you the deepest sense of happiness?

Knowing that I have made a difference in someone’s life. I have an ability to feel deep joy when I watch others succeed.

You are the owner of Master Koda Select Publishing, LLC. Is it the first business you have ever owned?

*Laughter* Nooo! I was just a kid of six or seven when I first ventured into the land of entrepreneurial adventures. I was always hunting around for something to sell. One summer it was candy out of the back of a little red wagon (my venture into door-to-door sales and another time it was a carnival in my back yard. One summer I gathered all the neighbourhood kids, and made them memorise lines and dress in ridiculous costumes, and we charged all the adults to suffer through our off-off-off-Broadway plays. The one ongoing business I had was selling my stories on the playground at school, so I guess I was an indie publisher way back before it was popular.

What is your favourite genre to read on a rainy day?

No matter the weather or genre, three important aspects must be present:
1. It can be a romance, thriller, fantasy or sci-fi, but the author has to make me believe it’s possible;
2. The plot must be intriguing and tightly written;
3. The characters have to be three-dimensional. No cardboard cut-outs for this girl.

What is the meaning of life?

To leave the earth a better place for having been here

#WW WOW Wednesday: G Mitchell Baker

WOW Wednesday is a new thing for, ahem, Wednesdays! Coinciding with
Writer Wednesday (#WW) on twitter. My first guest is G Mitchell Baker whose books include the Lethal Believers Series and The Involvement of Emerson
Today, I'm spotlighting book two in his dark fantasy series, called Lethal Believers: DVM. What's it all about, I hear you ask? Well, read on to find out...

Lethal Believers: DVM

“DVM is hurting animals. Danta continued to battle Mantid Tranquil. He is empowered by Lamia, the myth in search of rehabilitation,to defend The Innocents.”

Lethal Believers: DVM is the second novel in the
Lethal Believers Series, as a year later, Danta, protector of The Innocents, considers Lamia’s invitation to collaborate. The myth in search of rehabilitation wants the company of her stoic enabler. Their worlds continue to merge as Kagan and Evan Brancher experience the loss of their champion horse, Random, by the scourge of Mantid Tranquil. With Mantid losing control of DVM, worlds collide and there is more collaboration to protect in response.

Can ‘The Innocents’ be protected, and will their determination and mythology be enough to make a positive difference in this chaotic world? Are The Innocents learning enough to ultimately prevail against Mantid Tranquil, or will Danta and Lamia collaborate and continue to rope in the corrupted members of the insolent organization?

Book 3 in the series, Lethal Believers: Cave Ravens, is now with Master Koda Select Publishing and scheduled for release in 2014.
