A Poem a Day (635): NaPoWriMo Day 8 - Anything but still life

Day 8

Prompt: we take inspiration from Laura Foley’s poem, Year End, and challenge you to write a poem that centres around an encounter or relationship between two people (or things) that shouldn’t really have ever met – whether due to time, space, age, the differences in their nature, or for any other reason.

Anything but still life

A kind of suspended animation,
intermission, a drip into space,
this silver gasp of webbing,
light as air, heavy as dew,
snaps its effervescence.

Curving like an artist’s muse,
the Cruel Sea’s Pink Lady opens,
its core burrowed into. Hidden heart
exposed, its juices ooze. Inside, out,
slithers an arching beetle, black.

He lifts the brush and paints.
