#WW WOW Wednesday: Kymber Lee

Hi guys and girls! Yep, it's that day of the week again. Welcome to WOW Wednesday. My guest today is Kymber Lee, author of regency romance and mystery/conspiracy novels. Read on to find out more about Kymber and her writing...

Lord Tristan's True Love

Did you know that the society of Regency England forced members of the ton to marry if they were seen in public together? The unescorted young lady’s reputation would be quite ruined otherwise.

This book is one such story and tells of Miss Caroline Denise Whittingham’s misadventures in trying to get her betrothed to ‘cry off’. Unfortunately, one of her schemes has her thrown out of the realm of society and her betrothed, Lord Tristan Darlington, refuses to end the engagement until she finds her way back into their good graces. Of certainty, the odds of regaining favour with the peerage is slim in 1820 London, but Lord Darlington is a great friend of the Countess Lieven and enlists her aid.

Caroline finds him to be a pompous, stuffy lord who is puffed up with himself and his reputation; not caring a whit for her. In her efforts to expel Lord Darlington, she is deliberately rude to him in public and pretends to be afraid he will hurt her. These escapades force him to show his nastier side to the peerage he so desperately wants to impress.

On the day their engagement is announced in the London Times, there is a grand ball. Caroline presents herself in a most inappropriate gown and causes everyone in the room to turn their backs on her. Lord Darlington comes to her side and forces her to dance the waltz with him, acting for all the world as if nothing is amiss. Once the dance is over, he leads her into the gardens to show her how women who behave so outrageously are treated.

The tearful pleadings to her strict parents all prove to be in vain. Miss Whittingham cannot seem to win in this matter of the heart, for her father is certain she should wed to save the family from disgrace. Her temper tantrums and quick wit keep the story moving swiftly, carrying the reader from page to page like rapids in a river.

The sparring between Miss Whittingham and Lord Darlington cause many a raised eyebrow in society, which makes the book amusing and charming to read. It is my sincere desire that you will find this book energetic, as well as entertaining, for it has been a pleasure to write.

Reviews

"Lord Tristan's True Love was artfully written in typical true romance style, with the main character, Caroline, being your headstrong, naive, inexperienced love interest of the callous Lord Tristan who was typically arrogant, aloof, separate... yet deeply in love from first sight with the wilful Miss Whittingham. The book was a joy to read, yet it left me wanting more! More descriptive details of the surroundings, the clothing, the carriages... everything! Being such a period piece, I truly wanted to be drawn in by the details of the era, which were a little sparse. Having said that, I would definitely recommend Lord Tristan's True Love for a quick weekend read and will be keeping an eye out for more from this author. Well done Miz Kymber Lee!"
Cindy Smith

"If you're a lover of historical romance stories, this is a must read."
Jennifer Loiske

“Very entertaining story with a good mix of characters and a dab of humor."

Hi guys and girls! Welcome to WOW Wednesday. My guest today is Yasmin Correa, who writes in the genre
of 'interracial paranormal romance'. Her new novel is the medieval romance MarcoAntonio and Amaryllis. Read on to find out more...

Synopsis

The year is 1585, during the Anglo-Spanish War. England’s greed for Spain’s crops, land and supplies gives birth to the inertia of intolerance on both sides. Yet, even then, love surges forth.

MarcoAntonio, a Spanish gentleman and knight, defies all boundaries of colour and culture when he sets his eyes on the English lady Amaryllis. Although to others he may be a bit reserved, he dares to lower his defences solely for her.

Amaryllis is an English lady; one with an open heart, gentle spirit and shining eloquence. She knew that she should not desire MarcoAntonio. Still, a love that feels so right couldn’t be so horribly wrong?!

Travel with MarcoAntonio and Amaryllis as they duel with the internal and external forces that threaten to tear their powerful love apart. In the midst of troubles, the like of which have no compare, MarcoAntonio and Amaryllis find themselves having to fight the most unexpected of adversaries just for the right to love one another. Discover why their love is the result of all things conquered!

Some words from Yasmin

Hi! As far back as I can remember I've loved the art of literature. I've enjoyed many a story in many different genres, my favourite being romance; more specifically, paranormal romance. A couple of years ago, I decided that I wanted to try my hand at writing a story of my own and when I made the choice, there was no going back. My passion for reading became my passion for writing. With that, my own personal style developed, along with my writing genre of choice – that being ‘interracial paranormal romance’. I do, however, intend to try my hand at many other genres in the years to come.

I come from humble beginnings. Brought up in the ‘ghetto’, I made a choice long ago that I would not let my past define my future. I've been lucky to accomplish many things in my life, but I have got to say that the one thing that sparks a fire in my soul, like nothing ever has, is writing. I feel as though my characters are my very best friends. It's a feeling beyond compare, and an amazing journey each and every time. My only hope is that when someone reads my stories, they too are elevated into that world and taken on that journey. Regards always, Y. Correa.

Book excerpt (unedited by me):

It was still dark, but it did not matter. MarcoAntonio was certain that his brother would provide him help. Pulling up to his brother’s home, Marco called out, “Damian!” The lights inside were out, but upon his call Marco heard some movement, so he tried again.

“Damian, despertad. He llegado en necesidad de vuestra ayuda, hermano.”

“You know that I do not require much of anything. However, t'would be nice if you would at least give me the respect of speaking in English.” Rye spoke ironically as he did so well.

“Alright,” Marco responded with a tiny smirk, as he walked towards his brother's dormitory door and knocked. He could already hear his brother up and about. “Damian, my brother, I've come in search of you because I need your help.”

“Yes. Yes. I'm coming!” he heard Damian call to him from inside. Suddenly, a female voice giggled from behind the door. Marco and Rye heard Damian hushing someone “Shhh... behave, Ma’ Lady. I've company. 'Tis my older brother. Now behave.” Marco heard Damian speak to the lady in question lightheartedly.

The female voice replied, “Alright, but only if you gift me first, a kiss.”

“Oh, Ma’ Lady... naughty, naughty.” The female laughed.

Rye was appalled and disgusted. “Really, Marco? This playboy 'tis the man that shall help us?”

“Yes.”

“Fine.” He crossed his arms on his chest.

In just seconds the door flew open. Behind it stood a statuesque man of about MarcoAntonio's height, weight, and color, and as strong as well. His curls were looser than Marco's. His eyes green, as opposed to Marco's brown, and he bore no facial hair. He resembled Marco quite a lot. He fought to put his shirt on properly.

Rye's face went blank. His skin went pale, eyes opened widely. Then Damian spoke. “Ah, my dear brother. How may I assist you?” Finally adjusting his shirt in the right place, Damian made space through the door way, and extended his hand out to his company. “Come in. Come in.”

“Brother!” MarcoAntonio said with glee, and gave him a big hug.

“Marco. 'Tis been way too long.”

“Yes. Indeed.”

Both Marco and Rye walked in. Rye was practically mute. Something about this man, not only resembled Marco, but also reminded him so much of Fonso. He was flabbergasted.
“Damian, this is my assistant, Rye. Rye, this is my younger brother, Damian.”

Damian extended his hand offering Rye a shake. Rye moved slowly and awkwardly, offering Damian his. “'Tis a rather small man, brother.” Damian told MarcoAntonio in an odd tone, as if Rye were not standing right in front of him.

Shaking himself back into reality, Rye spoke. “We gypsies have no need for size or strength. We've speed, agility and intelligence in our favor,”

“Touché!” Damian replied. “Well, 'tis nice meeting you.”

Damian's conquest for the night peeked around the corner of the wall, which divided his living room from his bedroom, and she assessed the men in the room. Then glancing over at Damian with coquetry she queried with a flirting delivery. “Damian, will you have me waiting all night?”

Damian looked back at her, and then at his visitors. Lifting a single finger in their direction, he hinted to them to wait a moment. “Ah. Ma’ Lady, I've something for you.” He jumped towards a shelf and grabbed something, then jumped back in her direction.

“Ma’ Lady, please accept this trinket of my affection. And know that the rarity of this represents the rareness of my sentiment for you.” Then he placed the small box in the palm of her hand. “Now Ma’ Lady, I must tend to my brother and his companion, and I am forced to ask you to relinquish our venture for the night.” He took hold of her hand and kissed the back of it softly and winked. The girl sighed with a mixture of disappointment and rapture.

Page Turner Book Tours Presents Ann B. Harrison's 'From the Outback'

Title: From The Outback

Author: Ann B. Harrison

Publisher: Self-published

Formats Available: Digital

Book blurb:

Although desperate to get out of her dead-end job, Sami is cynical when she hears of an inheritance from the grandfather she never knew. But once she and her young brother arrive in the beautiful valley, she discovers they are not wanted... especially by the sexy vineyard owner next door.

Will she persevere and make a home for them, or give in and take the easy money when the going gets tough?

Excerpt:

A thump sounded on the bedroom door, jarring her from a deep sleep.

"Go away," Samantha Grace Rose Darling groaned into her pillow.

"Sami, phone."

"Tell them to f**k off and let me sleep." She threw a pillow at the door seconds before it eased open and her brother poked his head in the room. "Garth, I'm warning you, go away."

He sighed and she waited for the usual whine to follow. "There's an old guy on the phone. Said he wants to speak to you."

"Tell him I'm not here." She rolled over, brushed the hair from her face and then glared at him through half-closed eyes.

"I did but he insists on speaking to you. Said he wasn't going to go away until he does."
She groaned, pushed her blanket off with her hand and slowly slid out of bed. With languid grace Sami advanced on her brother intent on doing bodily harm to whoever it was who had the audacity to disturb her sleep. Holding out the phone, Garth waited for her to take it before he backed out of the room and quietly shut the door, leaving her alone.

"This better be bloody good. I pulled a double shift last night and I'm freaking tired."

Walking over to the window, she pushed aside the faded curtain and flinched when the bright Alice Springs sunlight filled her room, scorching her tired eyes. She promptly dropped the curtain into place wishing she'd left it alone. Sami rubbed her eyes and waited.

"Am I talking to Miss Samantha Grace Rose Darling?"

"Yeah." She dropped down to the edge of her bed, her fingers tracing a bruise on her leg from when she had bumped into a tray of glasses last night. I am such a klutz.

"Miss Darling, my name is Rupert Newland. I'm a solicitor with Newland, Newland and Cooper in Singleton, New South Wales."

She spat out a laugh before covering her mouth with the heel of her hand.

"I'm glad I amuse you. Now if you would be so kind as to contain yourself, I have news for you."

The voice on the other end of the phone was clipped and precise.

"I am acting on behalf of your grandfather's estate with regard to his final will and testament."

"I don't know who you're talking about. I don't have any family." Names ran through her mind but grandparents didn't come into the picture she had tucked away in her memory. "Nope. No grandparents I can lay claim to, sorry mate. You obviously have the wrong girl."

"Miss Darling, I have checked the facts and you are indeed the granddaughter of my late client. I need you to could come into the office for the reading of the will."

"Where did you say you were again?" Sami kicked through the pile of clothes on the bedroom floor and picked up the crumpled jeans from yesterday. She tucked the phone between her ear and shoulder to hold it firmly while she pulled her jeans on. One foot after the other she slid each leg into the jeans and yanked them up, wiggling her butt to pull them over her hips. Sami popped the button and did up the zip before she took the phone in her hand again.

"New South Wales, Hunter Valley. Singleton to be exact," he said.

"Mate, I don't know if you looked at the post code before you called me but I live in Alice Springs. In the middle of the frigging desert in the Northern Territory. I can't pop down the road and see you, understand?" She blew a stray curl from her face.

With one hand she opened her bedroom door and walked out to the lounge room. Garth tidied up his breakfast dishes and she smiled in his direction. He pointed to the coffee machine and Sami blew him a kiss.

"It will be worth your while to drive or fly down, Miss Darling."

"I can't afford it, okay? It's not like I do double shifts at the pub because I enjoy the work. I need the money and there isn't enough at the end of the week for a happy little visit to your office. Tell me what you want to say and let me get on with my day now you've dragged me from my bed." She lifted a hand and rubbed at her eyes.

"Very well. You have inherited Buttercup Farm and it's contents. There is also a bank account with a small balance which I will disclose once you have formally proven your identity."

"Are you serious?"

Garth looked over at her, his shoulders raised in question. She shook her head and turned away.

"I did send you paperwork last week but I didn't receive a reply, hence the follow up phone call today." The solicitor’s bristling attitude irritated her.

A pile of unopened mail sat on the cluttered kitchen counter and Sami screwed up her face. Out of habit she threw the next day's mail on top of the pile, dreading the bills inside the envelopes. The longer she ignored it, the larger the pile grew.

"Sorry. I've um... been a bit busy and haven't got around to opening the mail for a few days."

"Well I suggest you do that. I need signatures to transfer the bank account into your name. It would be significantly easier if you were here in town. Since you are not, I would appreciate it if you could go to the nearest courthouse and have a Justice of the Peace witness your identity and your signature where I have indicated. It might be best if you  Express Post the papers back to me today. You have to decide what to do with the farm and the stock." There was silence for a few seconds. "If I might make a suggestion? There are interested parties if you should decide to sell the property. Would you like me to have it valued for you? I can arrange everything from this end if you would prefer."

"No, no. I need to think about this for a bit. I'll ring you back after I read your letter. Thanks for calling." Sami hung up and threw the phone onto the couch and dropped her head into her hands.

"What is it? Was the landlord after his rent again? Sami, tell me."

"No, Garth. It was a solicitor." A wobbly laugh rose in her throat. "It seems as though we had family after all, even though he's dead."

#WW WOW Wednesday: Linda Bolton

Hi guys and girls! Welcome to WOW Wednesday. My 7th guest is Linda Bolton, author of Take 2.
The thrilling romance is on sale right now for 99c/75p. What's it all about, I hear you ask?
Well, read on to find out more about the novel and its talented writer...

What does a Scottish accent, a great body and a cute smile have in common?
Find out in TAKE 2!

Book blurb

Alexandra Daniels is forty-something and hard working, both in and out of home. Her life has been plodding along at a snail's pace and she’s longing for excitement. Alexandra wins a trip to see her favourite talk show in New York, the 'Veronica Becker Show', and it just so happens the actor of her dreams is a guest - Derek Dunbar! Is Alex’s life about to change?

Derek Dunbar is Scottish, an actor and a hunk! Every woman in America drools over him. He has his pick of women, but stinks at relationships. At forty, is he longing for a more meaningful relationship? Does he even know how to have one? Is he willing to make the effort or will it just be too complicated?

Excerpt from Take 2:

“Go”, “Two minutes”, was hollered out. Alex felt nervous even though most of the men at the speed-dating meeting didn’t appear her type. The fact that they wouldn’t find her their type bothered her most.
“Hi, my name is Rick. I work at a comic book store” was all Alex heard. He had shoulder length hair, a beard and his shirt was wrinkled.  “Your turn”.
“Hi, I’m Alex. A widow. Customer service rep. My daughter just got married.”  She was on auto-pilot. She repeated the same thing with every guy. “Tell me more about yourself,” was her next line so she wouldn’t have to really participate. And they did.
Why did she agree to do this? Kathleen was crazy. She actually looked like she was having fun.
            “Go! Two minutes.”
And it repeated, this time with a manager of Burger King. Ugh! These men were so boring. It’s no wonder they couldn’t find dates. “I love reading and watching science fiction. I have the complete set of Star Wars collectables.”
This was pure torture. Kathleen owed her. Having her eyebrows waxed was better than this.
            “Go! Two minutes”.
This one had a real job. “I work at a bank.”
“Oh, what do you do?” Alex was a bit intrigued.
“Oh, I meant to say I worked a bank. Until I went to jail for embezzling. I have served my time and am looking for work right now. I’m on probation for five years,” Mitchell said with a smile.
“Isn’t that a felony?” Alex couldn’t believe she was having this conversation.
“Yeah, I’ll get a job soon. I’m staying with my mom right now. She has plenty of room and doesn’t mind if I bring the ladies by,” he managed with a wink.
            “Go! Two minutes”.
Thank God it was almost over! Alex was never going to repeat this experience. As her last speed-date babbled on about his inability to wear corrective shoes, Alex watched Kathleen laugh and chat away with hers. Kathleen looked like she really enjoyed doing this. Alex was in awe--and misery.
When it was finally over Alex and Kathleen headed to the bar for a drink to compare notes.
“This was too much fun! These guys are a riot! I think I may meet the ex-con for drinks later!” Kathleen giggled at the thought of her possible date.
“Are you insane?” Alex couldn’t believe her ears.
“Did you not have fun Alex?” Kathleen looked genuinely surprised.
“Kathleen, I realize your fun and my fun are two totally different things. You know I would do anything for you but NEVER ask me to do this again! It was pure torture!” Alex didn’t mean to come across so agitated but she just couldn’t help it.
Kathleen looked a bit hurt but after her first margarita she was understanding and agreed to take her sister next time. Alex couldn’t wait to get home, take a long shower and crawl into bed. Suddenly, being alone sounded wonderful.

Some reviews of Take 2

“Which one of us doesn’t fantasise about our favourite actor falling madly and deeply in love with them?
In Take 2 the main character, Alexandra Daniels, gets to fulfil every girl's fantasy when she catches the eye of sexy Scottish actor Derek Dunbar! The sex scenes, while expressive, are far from offensive or smutty.
I enjoyed this story so much I had a hard time putting it down!!!”

Who wouldn't love to live out such a fantasy?”

Page Turner Book Tours Presents: Hearts in Exile by Mysti Parker

What’s in a Theme? Pt. 2

By Mysti Parker

“Life goes on
It gets so heavy
The wheel breaks the butterfly
Every tear, a waterfall
In the night, the stormy night
She closed her eyes
In the night, the stormy night
Away she'd fly.”
~ From ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay

These lyrics sealed the deal when choosing a song for the beginning of Hearts in Exile. The farther I got into the story and later drafts, the more I saw a theme emerging. It made its first appearance in Chapter Eight when young Loralee and Sir Robert (Igrorio) are out riding and she finds an injured butterfly…

Gently, she reached down to the grass, where a butterfly struggled to take flight. One of its wings was crooked, probably broken.

“That’s too bad,” I said, and was about to find something else to occupy my attention when Loralee touched the butterfly’s broken wing with one finger and rested the palm of her other hand on the ground beneath her. Eyes closed, her mouth moved silently. A brief glow covered the insect, she withdrew her finger, and the butterfly fluttered both wings. It took flight a second later.

I stood there with my mouth hanging open, watching it fly around Loralee’s head. It landed on her nose as if to say ‘thank you’, and she giggled. Then, it flitted off over the grasses until I couldn’t see it anymore.

She must have healed me like that, too. Amazing… and clearly beyond my comprehension.

Scratching my ear, I asked, “Is there anything you can’t do?”

“Well…” One of those brushed-on smiles lit up her face. “I can’t fly… yet…”

That little scene said so much about Loralee’s character as compassionate healer, and like the butterfly, she was gentle and beautiful. At the end of that snippet, you catch a hint of what she longs to do with her life. She wants to follow her dreams, to become a great healer, to be free to fly.

Yet, just like the wheel broke the butterfly in the song lyrics above, fate crushed Loralee’s dreams and she never got the chance to fly… not until she became a Dragon Keeper.

With that in mind, I brought back the butterfly theme during a rewrite much later in the story after Sir Robert and Loralee were reunited on the island with the dragons. It brought tears to my eyes, seeing the symbolism come full circle. Sir Robert, having just found Loralee again after ten years, is desperate to keep her safe from a threatening dragon, but he’s grown too protective, doubting the strong woman she’s truly come to be. Here, in Chapter Thirty-Six, as he’s alone and brooding about how to keep her from harm, he realizes what he must do…

I stared into the water of the tiled pool. A spotted butterfly flew from one of the bushes, flitted close to the current flowing from the wall, and landed on my hand. I held it up, smiling at the tickly sensation as it crawled up my finger. Tiny water droplets weighed its wings down a bit, and I started to blow on them to help them dry. The butterfly wobbled under the force of my breath and retreated to the very tip of my finger.

Deciding to leave it alone, I simply held my finger steady and watched as it lifted and lowered its wings again and again. Between the gentle movements and the sun’s warmth, it was soon dry. One more flutter, and it lifted from my finger, flitting back toward the bushes.

Smiling down at the figurines Loralee had taken such great care in carving, I said, “So, that’s it, hmm? I can be there when she needs me, but I’ve got to let her fly.”

Loralee had to be given the chance to prove herself, even if it put her in danger. Sir Robert had to learn to trust her abilities, even though it went against his paladin nature. Think about that. We can pin butterflies down and preserve them as specimens forever, but their true beauty is only seen when they can fly free, with their colourful wings glimmering in the sunlight.

And isn’t that true for us all?

Book blurb:

Somewhere, hidden in the waters of the Southern Sea, lies an island unlike any other. Within the amber glow of its pyrogem-laden cliffs, legend says the very heart of the dragon god Drae keeps the island and its occupants alive. Loralee Munroviel, daughter of Leogard's High Priestess Arianne, had no idea what she would face when she arrived by boat ten years ago and was left alone in exile. All she knew about Draekoria's inhabitants was written in one tattered notebook. Now her life revolves around keeping Drae's descendants happy. Never in her life did she imagine being a Dragon Keeper.

Captain Igrorio Everlyn, known as Sir Robert to his unit of Holy Paladins, has faced his share of hell, battling the evils of Emperor Sarvonn's tyranny and the dark god Tyr's abominations. But none of that compares to the ten years of hell he's spent without Loralee, presumed dead. One freak storm changes everything. Now the two of them must fight to re-establish the delicate balance of the island before the dragons take things into their own hands. Through it all, they discover the secrets that kept them, and their hearts, exiled for a decade.

Excerpt from Chapter 3:

After a shipwreck, Sir Robert wakes up in a strange cottage, only to find Loralee, the love of his life, whom he thought had been dead for a decade…

“I don’t understand. What is this place?”

“It’s an island. Very few know of its existence.”

I shook my head, trying to clear the fog of this confusing dream come to life. “But, why would you be here, and why would you be sorry? Unless…”

The words wouldn’t come. My racing mind pitched in to help. Unless she didn’t want to marry me after all.

Wrenching pain I’d kept tucked inside broke free, and I clambered to my feet. Loralee followed suit, backing herself into the small dining table.

I tried, but could not hide the bitter anger in my words. “How could you do this to me? Do you have any idea what I’ve been through?”

Her eyes widened. She clutched the table with one hand and her robe with the other. “What you’ve been through? I didn’t want this. I was forced here.”

“What do you mean, forced here? Where are your shackles?” My voice roared through the little cottage as I gestured around me with one arm. “Where are the bars? This looks like no prison I’ve ever seen.”

Her voice cracked the air, rivaling with my own. “I was betrayed, forced into exile. Don’t you understand? I never wanted to leave you. I never wanted anything so much as I wanted you.”

Pacing away, I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. I had to calm myself, to let the weight of this discovery, the improbability of her explanation to sink into my water-logged brain.

I couldn’t bring myself to look at her just yet, so I stared at my bare feet instead. “Why didn’t you tell me, write to me?”

“I tried. I begged the supply ship crew to bring my letters to you. They always took them, but never brought one in return. I suspect they destroyed them, but I had no way of knowing.” She sucked in a shaky breath as though trying to hold back her tears. “I never stopped loving you.”

Turning back to face her, I felt like a mindless beast. Here I was, raging against the love of my life when she’d all but been brought back from the dead.

“Loralee.” I eased toward her. She cringed. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

Without a word, I leaned in and pressed my forehead to hers, allowing myself to breathe in her scent for the first time in a decade. We stood suspended like that for a while, lost in time, and emerging from a purgatory neither of us had imagined ten years ago. I would have been content to stand like that forever, but Loralee burst into tears and wilted to the floor.

I followed her down and opened the quilt to wrap us both inside. I held her tight while she cried.

While I cried.

I finally got enough breath to speak again. “What did you mean by forced here? They told me you were…” I couldn’t say it, not with her warm and so very alive against me.

“I know.”

The weight of it all came crashing down on me. “This is my fault, isn’t it? You’re here because of me.”

She made no attempt to wipe her cheeks, but shook her head and stared at the rafters as though entreating the gods. “No, it’s not your fault. Not at all. There is so much to explain, I don’t know where to start.”

I couldn’t comprehend any of it, so I focused on the here and now. “You found me on the shore?”

She nodded.

“The crew, Francis…did you find anyone else out there?”

“No, I had Xax-, I mean, no, I searched but didn’t find anyone else.”

The familiar weight of grief squeezed my chest, and a few more tears escaped before I could stop them.

She pulled me close and whispered, “I’m so sorry. I know how much you loved him. We all did.”

“We all grieved for you. You’ve been here…all this time?”

“Yes.”

“By the gods, Loralee, I’ve missed you so much.” I put my wet cheek against hers and pressed my lips to her soft skin. “Part of me died the day I thought you… please…just tell me how you ended up here.”

Loralee took a few deep breaths and finally pulled away from me. She caressed my cheek and smiled weakly.  “I’ll make us a pot of tea. And then, I think we should start at the beginning, back to the Great Plague and when we first met. Do you remember that?”

Smiling past the sadness, I covered her hand with mine and closed my eyes. “How could I ever forget?”
